Termite Swarming Season (Mid-April to June): What It Means for Your Home

From mid-April through June, many homeowners start noticing winged termites (called “swarmers”) around lights, windows, and doorways—especially after warm days followed by rain. This period is known as termite swarming season, and it’s one of the most important times of the year to take action.

What is a termite swarm?

A swarm happens when a mature termite colony releases winged termites to start new colonies. Swarmers don’t cause the damage themselves—the real concern is what their presence suggests: an established colony may already be nearby or inside your property.

Why swarming season is a warning sign

If you see swarmers indoors or find piles of discarded wings, it often means termites are active close to where you’re seeing them. Termite damage can stay hidden for a long time behind walls, under floors, or inside wooden framing—so visible swarmers can be the first clue that something is happening out of sight.

Common signs to watch for (mid-April to June)

  • Swarmers near windows, lamps, or ceiling lights

  • Discarded wings on windowsills, floors, or tabletops

  • Mud tubes on walls, posts, or along foundations

  • Hollow-sounding wood, soft spots, or bubbling paint

How Jansen Pest Control can help

At Jansen Pest Control, our termite control programs are built to do more than just address what you can see—we focus on finding the source, stopping the colony, and helping prevent future infestations.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • A thorough inspection to identify termite activity, entry points, and risk areas

  • A treatment plan tailored to your property and the level of infestation

  • Targeted control to eliminate active termites and protect vulnerable areas

  • Ongoing guidance and prevention steps to reduce conditions that attract termites (like moisture and wood-to-soil contact)

What to do if you spot swarmers

  • Schedule an inspection as soon as possible—early action can prevent bigger repairs later

  • Avoid spraying household insecticide; it may scatter termites without solving the source problem

  • If you can, collect a few wings or termites in a small container for identification

If you’re seeing swarmers between mid-April and June, it’s the right time to get ahead of the problem. Contact Jansen Pest Control to book a termite inspection and learn which termite control program best fits your property.
